The Blue Ridge Parkway
By Gage Arnold
The Blue Ridge Parkway National Park is a Beautiful Scenic Road that goes around 3 mountain ranges. We went in fall and all the trees were gorgeous during this season. It looked like an artist that paints pictures of fire spilled his palate on the trees.
The Parkway has 168 bridges, and it took a little over 50 years to build. The Parkway was finished in 1987. It has 36 tunnels and the longest one, Pine Mountain Tunnel is 1,320 ft long. The whole road together is 469 miles long and goes through Virginia and North Carolina. It is the most visited National Park every year since 1946 except two years (1949, and 2013)
At the Parkwa visitors center, they have a Junior Ranger Program. If you don’t know what that is, it is an activity booklet you get and you have to do a certain amount of activities. If you get them all correct, you get a badge and sometimes a patch too.
I think the drive was pretty cool. The viewpoints were beautiful and so was the drive. We didn’t get to drive along the whole parkway this time but we spent a whole day there. To see the whole thing would take around two days.
