This campground in on an Army Base near Texarkana, TX. My Uncle worked here so he arranged the family reunion. It is a great location for a family reunion or a rally except for the fact that you can’t reserve a spot. It is all first come first serve and there are a lot of military contractors staying here long-term in trailers and fifth wheels. Lucky for us my parents don’t live too far from here so they went out early and saved us a spot. We were fortunate enough to get spot #3 right in front of the playground and my parents parked next to us. We are so thankful that they held us a spot!
The campground was really nice with an awesome playground, lake, marina, store and large rec room. Most spots are shaded because the campground has lots of very tall pine trees. They also have really cute cabins to rent.
Eric left the boys and I here for a few days because he still had to go to work. (he doesn’t retire until the end of August). Again I was so thankful my parents were close by since this Rving thing is so new to me.
One of the contractor who was beside us has his 3 boys, Diego, Nathan and Joshua visiting him this week. Our 2 boy loved having other kids to around.
Did I mention it was on a lake? Lake Elliot to be exact. It is really like an extra-large pond but still lots of fun. The lake was covered with lily pads and great for fishing but not so great for swimming. There is a little swim area roped off with a nice beach close to the marina area. At the marina they rent boats out by the hour or by the day and it was unbelievably inexpensive. We did rent a boat for the day and had a blast riding around and the boys fished some.
On the weekend all our family started arriving for the reunion. It was great seeing everyone all together, but we all missed having my Grandma, Papa, and 2 of my aunts around. (they all 4 passed away in previous years) Looking at pictures from previous reunions made me miss them even more. 😦 We also missed my little sister and her family who weren’t able to come.
During the reunion we had a family auction to make money for next years reunion and Eric got to be the auctioneer. After all his experience watching “Storage Wars” he was a natural!
Overall it was a Great experience!!!!!
